MetroMetro began in the fall of 2002.  Bo, Brady, and Will were hanging out as usual in Brooklyn, and one frequent topic of discussion was the relative merits of playing in relation to working.  They talked about wanting to be in a gigantic scavenger hunt-one that would force them to scour the entire city for clues.  But they didn't know of any hunts in the works for less than One Thousand Dollars Per Person.  So they decided to plan one, just for their friends.  Everywhere in Manhattan south of 110th Street would be fair game.  They e-mailed a handful of people to participate and spread the word, and they set up a quick-and-dirty webpage for signups.

They called themselves MetroMetro.  They called the hunt Metropolitan Odyssey.

People started signing up their teams of three.  At first, Brady, Bo, and Will recognized their friends' names among the signups.  But then some new names started showing up in their inbox.  They had conversations like this:

Brady:  Hey, we got a signup from your friend Serge

Will and Bo:  Who?

And so it began. About 150 people later, they cut off sign-ups and had an extraordinarily successful daylong scavenger hunt.  Not wanting to lose that nearly crippling high of a job well done, Metro Metro decided to continue, expand, and take over everything.  And so they did, planning event after event, always changing the scope but never the mission: to have fun.

Tim, no stranger to the desire for fun, came on as graphic designer. Soon enough, he worked his way down the ladder to And Tim.

As Metro Metro, we continue to provide these carefully planned, economically produced, soulfully satisfying extravaganzas when our free time permits.  Every year we aim to do the scavenger hunt, and then in the meantime we tackle all sorts of ideas to promote city exploration, social interaction, and general good times.

So welcome to MetroMetroland, where playing really is better than working.

We're glad you're here.
